Macedonian PM addressed large audience at Business Forum in Stockholm

The economic team of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, headed by the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski last week attended a Business Forum in Stockholm at which the economic and investment potentials of the Republic of Macedonia were presented before representatives of around 60 Swedish companies.

The Business Forum was opened by the Minister of Trade of Sweden, Ewa Bjorling, who highlighted that the continuous improvement of the business climate in Macedonia had stimulated an enhancement of the economic cooperation between the two countries and underscored the clear Swedish support for the integration of the Republic of Macedonia into the European Union.

PM Gruevski stressed that for the achieved results, the Republic of Macedonia had been ranked among the top three reformers, according to the World Bank´s Doing Business Report for 2012, and that Macedonia had been at the 22nd position and had had the highest ranking compared to any other transitional economy in Central, Eastern and South-eastern Europe.

He noted that the Macedonian economy, for several years in continuity had been characterized by a pronounced macroeconomic stability and average inflation rate of 2.5%, while regarding public finance, a policy of low budget deficit and careful indebting had been pursued, thus the government debt had been 26%, low and flat tax of 10% had been introduced, retained earnings had been completely tax exempt and social contributions had been gradually reduced by a third.
