Kosovo Becomes 186th Member of IMF, World Bank

KosovoPosted by Chambers of Commerce Sweden - Southeast Europe Tue, June 30, 2009 08:11:09

A little more than a year after it declared its independence, the Republic of Kosovo joined Monday the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Thus, Kosovo became the 186th member of the two organizations after its leaders, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, and President Fatmir Sejdiu, signed the documents at a ceremony at the US State Department.
After its declaration of independence on February 17, 2008, Kosovo has been recognized by 60 states including the US and 22 EU member states (including Bulgaria). Its independence is opposed by Serbia, which is backed by Russia.
