MacedoniaPosted by Chambers of Commerce Sweden - Southeast Europe Tue, December 01, 2009 23:25:19

The dispute between Greece and Macedonia about the use of the word Macedonia in the country´s name has for the first time been lifted to the highest level, as the two prime ministers were meeting last Friday on the Greek side of the border.

Both PM:s came out smiling after the meeting and mr Papandreou told the press that “we wanted to give the negotiations a new dynamic”, according to Deutsche Welle. who also reported that Greece now can be prepared to accept the word Macedonia, if "North" is added to it.

Because of the dispute, Greece is blocking Macedonia´s accession to both NATO as well as EU. There are now hopes that the dispute could be resolved already next year..
